Books for Preschool-Aged Children

Books for children between the ages of 2 – 5 years are a mixture of board books and picture books. In picture books, text and pictures work together to tell a story. During this age, most children are curious about the world and looking for books to spur their imagination and knowledge.

Books for Elementary-Aged Kids

Ages 5 – 10 years

Elementary-aged children are between the ages of 5 – 12 years. During these ages, children are beginning to read and will need Easy Readers, books with limited vocabulary and pictures to give clues for comprehension. Children will also begin to start reading chapter books, which tell a story through prose rather than illustrations.

Books for Teenagers

Ages 13 – 18 years

Young adult books (YA) are popular among teenagers, since the books are more mature in subject matter and style than middle grade books. The characters are normally fellow teenagers or young adult, and the topics range from a variety of contemporary issues teenagers are concerned with. Many young adult books may have suggestive and mature themes that may not be appropriate for some children. We always encourage parents, caregivers, and educators to read a book or find out information about a book before allowing children or teenagers to read it.
